outside Cocka Doodle Moo in Stockport. Manchester City Centre has more than its fair share of burger joints, but there aren’t too many in the back-waters south of Manchester. So not wanting to travel too far, my wife and I arranged a visit to Cocka Doodle Moo with family.

Benefiting from being located on a main road through Stockport, the restaurant was very busy. We were quickly shown to our table and had a glance through the menu, a delight for carnivores. The complimentary monkey nuts that were on our table were swiftly devoured before the meal arrived.

I ordered the Beef Brisket and pulled pork, which was served with French fries and coleslaw. It was a very generous helping of moist BBQ pork and tender brisket, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity – although it did lack a little in flavour. The fries were thin-cut, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife ordered the Mushroom and Halloumi Wrap, which certainly wouldn’t have been my choice in this type of restaurant, but the flavours were good.

My brother-in-law ordered the 9 inch chilli beef dog, which was huge: a large meaty smoked sausage on a bun smothered in chilli and jalapenos. It was great. A couple of people ordered the Dirty Boy Burger, which was a fair size but average in taste and a little dry.

Overall, the meal was OK, and I would try this place again in the future, but there are better restaurants in the area.
